Complete and return the attached "CONFIRMATION OF ACCEPTANCE", N5b, to your national IAESTE committee as soon as possible. Keep the "INTRODUCTION CARD TO SWEDEN", which you will need for your work permit. Make sure to let us know when you are going to arrive, i.e send your enclosed postcard immediately. That way we can plan your arraival in time and make sure that your accommodation is in order.
At your arrival
You will be met at the airport or at the train station by your "fadder" or a member of the local committee. Your "fadder" is a student at KTH and he/she will show you to your accommodation and make sure that you find your way to work the first day. He/she will also be of help during your hole stay here in Gothenburg, Sweden. If you run into problems of any nature don't hesitate to contact your fadder or a member of the local committee. We are here for you and we are glad to be of assistance. During your stay we will try to arrange as many social activities as possible. We meet at least once a week (presently every Thursday) and we try to have activities every other weekend. If you stay here during the summer you can go to different weekend activities all over Scandinavia. We hope that you will have a pleasant stay in Sweden and that you will get many fine memories from our country.
Work permit
All IAESTE students coming to Sweden must have a work permit stamped in their passports before entering the country. If not you must return to your homecountry to have it stamped. The Swedish IAESTE Committee has applied for your work permit to the National Immigration and Naturalising Board.
"Work permits of limited duration are good only for work on behalf of a specified employer in a specified occupation". This means that you are not allowed to work elsewhere during your traineeship in Sweden.
Together with your Acceptance papers you'll get an "INTRODUCTION CARD TO SWEDEN" which you must bring with you when collecting your work permit at the Swedish Embassy/Consulate.
You will also need your "INTRODUCTION CARD" in case of extending your traineeship. In case of extension of your work permit you might have to arrange lodging with help of your employer or by yourself.
Work
Practical training in Sweden means work and not a study visit. A given work cannot be changed upon arrival. July is usually a vacation month in Sweden. Some companies close for about four weeks.
Payment
The payment stated on Form NON has been set by the employer according to the work offered and to the agreement between the Swedish Employers' Confederation and the Swedish Federation of Trade Unions. The payment mentioned is always before tax reduction.
Taxes
As a general rule all trainees have to pay income tax in Sweden. The employer has to deduct tax from his employee's income according to Swedish laws.
We have informed your employer about this and the employer will apply for tax deduction/tax exemption to the Local Tax Office. The tax is for trainees about 25%, if no bilateral agreement exists.
